Edmonton Singer-Songwriter Honoured for Rock Music for Social Change and International Songwriting

EDMONTON, ALBERTA — September 2026 — Canadian singer-songwriter and recording artist Dahlia Wakefield is celebrating a major international career milestone after taking home a Gold award at a prestigious international music award ceremony at Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 22, 2026.

She received Gold in the International Singer Songwriter Association (ISSA) Awards for International Female Songwriter of the Year, recognizing her powerful rock songwriting and the ability of her music to address meaningful real-world experiences and inspire listeners. Also, recently, Wakefield was awarded Gold in the European International Music Awards (EIMA) for Best Rock Song for Social Change for her recent single "Light of the Phoenix", adding another significant international honour to an already award-winning songwriting career.

“These awards mean so much to me because they recognize not only the music, but the message behind it,” says Wakefield. “As an independent artist, songwriter and performer, I pour my heart and life experiences into my music. To have that work recognized internationally is incredibly humbling. Also, I couldn't have done it without my songwriting partner, Kevin Frey. I am grateful for this amazing collaboration with him!"

Wakefield’s music has increasingly embraced a powerful rock sound while maintaining the emotional honesty that has become a hallmark of her songwriting. Her latest chapter is her upcoming rock single “But No More,” to be released September 18, 2026, which delivers an unapologetic message of finding one’s voice, breaking free from what holds you back, and choosing yourself to live your best life. It follows the award winning song "Light of the Phoenix", released May 18, 2026.

The song forms part of Wakefield’s larger Phoenix Rising upcoming 10-song album, co-written by Wakefield and Frey — a deeply personal musical journey built around themes of resilience, transformation, empowerment and rising from the ashes.

A professional performer for more than two decades, Wakefield is a singer-songwriter, recording artist, studio session singer, vocal coach, mentor and band leader. She graduated with Distinction from the Music Program at Grant MacEwan University in Vocal Performance and has built a diverse career spanning original music, studio work, live performance, teaching and collaboration. She currently teaches at KPA Music in Stony Plain and Visionary Center for the Performing Arts in St. Albert.

Her songwriting has earned recognition from organizations in Canada, the United States and internationally, including multiple nominations from the Josie Music Awards, Elite Music Awards and awards from ISSA, EIMA and other international music organizations.

For Wakefield, the two Gold awards represent more than accolades—they are a reflection of the journey behind the music. “I hope my songs remind people that no matter what they have been through, they can find their strength, reclaim their voice and rise again, no matter how old they are” says Wakefield. “Sometimes you have to walk through the fire to discover just how strong you really are.”
