Dahlia Wakefield is an award-winning powerhouse singer-songwriter, recording artist, performer, session singer, vocal coach, band leader, mentor, and promoter whose unmistakable voice and passionate performances have made her a force to be reckoned with on stages across Alberta and beyond. With more than 20 years of professional performance experience, Dahlia has built a diverse career spanning many genres.
Born in the Philippines and raised in the small Saskatchewan community of Maidstone, Dahlia’s musical journey began at just five years old on a stage in St. Walburg, SK for "International Year of the Child". After gaining valuable performance experience on both sides of the Alberta-Saskatchewan border, she followed her love of rock ’n’ roll to Edmonton, where she refined her craft through the Music Program at Grant MacEwan University, graduating with Distinction in Vocal Performance.
Dahlia is not only a performer but also a dedicated educator. Since 2011, she has shared her knowledge and experience as a professional vocal coach and beginner piano instructor at various locations, helping students of all ages develop confidence, technique, and a deeper connection with music. She has also served as a judge for the KWC Karaoke Championships.
AN AWARD-WINNING SONGWRITER
Dahlia’s songwriting is deeply personal, fearless, and unapologetic. Her music transforms real-life experiences into powerful stories of resilience, self-discovery, heartbreak, empowerment, and finding the courage to reclaim your voice.
Her 2026 album, "Phoenix Rising", released on October 13, 2026, represents a defining chapter in Dahlia’s artistic journey. The album explores themes of toxic relationships, manipulation, abuse, resilience, and ultimately rising stronger from adversity. Her songs are not simply about what she has endured—they are about what happens when you decide to take your power back.
That message has resonated far beyond her own audience. In July 2026, Dahlia won a Gold Medal for the 2026 EIMA Awards (European International Music Awards) for Best Rock Song for Social Change for her song “Light of the Phoenix.”
On August 22, in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, Dahlia received the 2026 International Female Songwriter of the Year - GOLD - at the ISSA Awards (International Singer Songwriter Association).
Her songwriting has also received recognition through other international competitions and nominations such as The Josie Awards in Nashville, the Elite Awards, International Songwriting Competition (ISC), and others, while her music has garnered attention from publications and music media including Canadian Beats, Cashbox Canada, Tinnitist, Record World International, and more.
PHOENIX RISING
Dahlia’s Phoenix Rising era has delivered a series of powerful rock singles, including “Queen of Overthinking,” “Goodbye,” “Well Dressed Lies,” and “Light of the Phoenix.” Co-written with songwriting partner Kevin Frey, the songs on her upcoming album showcase Dahlia’s signature combination of gritty guitars, soaring vocals, emotional vulnerability, and unapologetic strength.
Her newest and fifth single from the album, “But No More,” arrived on September 18, 2026. A raw and defiant rock anthem, “But No More” captures the moment when someone finally reaches their breaking point and realizes that enough is enough. It is about breaking free from fear and silence, drawing a line in the sand, taking back your voice, and refusing to be diminished any longer. No more fear. No more silence. But no more.
A VOCALIST WITH MANY SIDES
Dahlia’s versatility has made her a sought-after vocalist for a wide range of musical projects. Not only does she have a solo band showcasing her original music, she is a member of Canadian country-rock band Dirt Road Angels, with whom she has co-written and recorded original material. She also performs acoustically with the Dahlia & Alan Duo, hard rock band Kerosene, special events/casino act Dahlia & The Villains, and Twilight Time - a tribute to The Platters and doo-wop music. She also occasionally performs with 80s metal cover band Shocker and works as a professional session singer on recordings, and provides lead and backup vocals for other artists and tribute acts including many Elvis impersonator acts.
In 2023 and again in 2025, Dahlia was selected to perform backup vocals for legendary Canadian rock band Toronto, adding another notable chapter to her already diverse performance career.
As the powerhouse lead vocalist of Edmonton-based Brigade (Heart Tribute Band), Dahlia channels the legendary Ann Wilson of Heart, performing alongside fellow Dirt Road Angel Karen Claypool as Nancy Wilson. The band brings the iconic music of Heart to life with the vocal power, musicianship, and energy that audiences have come to expect from Dahlia.
Dahlia’s career has taken her from intimate acoustic performances to major stages, casinos, festivals, and large-scale outdoor events. On New Year’s Eve 2023, she and her band performed for more than 10,000 people in Edmonton’s Churchill Square, an experience she describes as exhilarating—particularly because she was able to share her own original music with such a massive audience.
Yet some of Dahlia’s most meaningful performances happen far from the biggest stages, regularly performing solo at retirement and long-term care homes, bringing familiar songs and cherished memories to residents through music. For Dahlia, these performances are a reminder of music’s extraordinary ability to connect, comfort, and bring joy.
